Get your whole program ready for the new ABEM Certifying Exam.
The oral boards are gone. The 2026 Certifying Exam tests prioritization, communication, and procedures your residents have never rehearsed — and legacy prep books don't cover. BoardED gives every resident realistic, AI-powered reps on all three case types, and gives you a program-level view of who's ready and who needs help.
Built by board-certified EM physicians · Aligned to the ABEM Certifying Exam format · Free faculty seats included
Built by ED physicians
Founded and content-reviewed by practicing board-certified emergency physicians.
Physician-verified cases
Every case is written and checked by EM faculty - AI runs the cases, but the quality is board-certified EM.
Matches the real exam
Prioritization, Clinical Decision-Making, and Communications cases, built to replicate the real thing.
Program-ready
Cohort dashboards, gap detection, and per-resident progress out of the box.
The exam your residents are walking into is not the one you trained for.
ABEM retired the virtual Oral Exam and replaced it with an in-person Certifying Exam at the AIME Center in Raleigh. It's built to feel like a shift: managing a full trackboard under constraints, having hard conversations with standardized patients, and performing procedures on a mannequin — not role-playing eight linear cases with an examiner.
The clinical knowledge your residents already have still matters. What's new is the format — and format is exactly what old oral-boards materials, including the books your residents always handed down, were never built to teach.
The programs that get ahead of this will be the ones that let residents practice the format, repeatedly, asynchronously, and with supervision - before test day.
Three case types. One exam. Real reps on each.
BoardED simulates every part of the Certifying Exam so nothing on test day is a surprise. The key to all three is the same: understand the format, structure, and traps — which only comes from practice.
Prioritization
Residents manage a live trackboard: allocate staff, assign beds, and stabilize patients under changing constraints. New patients arrive, statuses change, curveballs come. It's the most novel part of the exam, and the one with no legacy equivalent.
Clinical Decision-Making
A structured, tabletop discussion of a patient case that probes deep clinical knowledge. BoardED asks the extension questions an examiner would, and coaches residents to answer thoughtfully and completely.
Communications & Procedures
All-new standardized-patient encounters — managing conflict, difficult conversations, reassessment, and patient-centered communication — plus ultrasound and procedure stations. Every communications case has a key, and BoardED scores based on the soft skills ABEM will assess on test day.
A shared platform for residents and faculty — aligned on exam readiness.
Residents get realistic practice. You get the visibility you've never had into how a class is actually tracking toward the boards — objectively, and early enough to intervene when needed.
For your residents
- Practice all ABEM case types in a simulated exam environment
- Get AI feedback and a full rationale on every decision
- See their own weak areas and get targeted next steps
- Build confidence and pattern-recognition before exam day
For program leadership
- Assess resident readiness objectively via domains identified by ABEM
- Spot learning gaps early — by cohort (PGY-1/2/3) and by domain
- Supplement (or replace) your boards-prep didactics with structured, trackable practice
- Longitudinal, program-level insight: track each learner from intern to senior

Plans that fit how your program works.
Whether you want every resident on the platform from intern year or a focused push for your exam-year class, there's a structure that fits. Faculty seats are included so your educators can see exactly what residents see.
Full-cohort license
A named seat for every resident across all three years, renewed each academic year. Best for programs that want longitudinal readiness data from intern to senior.
Faculty seats included
Exam-year cohort
Seats for your PGY-3 class actively preparing for the Certifying Exam, transferring to the next class each July. A lower-commitment way to start.
Faculty seats included
Oral-boards practice days
Scheduled group access passes timed around your mock oral-boards or simulation sessions. No standing seats — we provision access for the day.

Why we built this
“I'm an emergency physician, and I was deeply frustrated that there was no good way to prepare for a high-stakes exam that had just completely changed. So I built the simulator I wanted my own residents to have — one that recreates the trackboard, the conversations, and the procedures of the new Certifying Exam, and gives real feedback on every rep.”
